Winter Hike Adventure at Heins Creek Nature Preserve
February 9 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Join us for a snowshoe, ski or hike adventure at Heins Creek Nature Preserve. Explore this preserve’s beautiful wooded sand dunes and creek as we search for animal tracks and its winter inhabitants. The sand dunes here were formed thousands of years ago after the glaciers melted and lake levels dropped, closing off the ancient bay of Lake Michigan, forming today’s Kangaroo Lake which drains through Heins Creek to Lake Michigan. Learn about the Native Americans and settlers who once called this place home. Trails are relatively flat and easy to traverse and will cover a portion of the 1 mile trail system, taking approximately 2 hours. Participants must provide their own skis or snowshoes. Rentals are available at Ecology Sports or Bayshore Outdoor Store.
