Plant diversity is the key to the health of wildlife habitat, but common invasive plants can upset the natural balance and have wide-ranging consequences. It is true that humans are often both the cause and the cure to invasive species problems. Coordinated efforts are now underway to restore the ecological health of the larger Blufflands landscape. Protecting Endangered Species Walk at Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve

The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal Nature Preserve is the site of the Door County Land Trust’s largest restoration project undertaken to date. In the spring, volunteer birding teams come out to record breeding bird populations. In summer, Chicago Botanical Garden staff monitor endangered Pitcher's dune thistles.  Both bird and thistle counts increase in response to invasive plant removal and habitat improvement. A Tour of the Night Sky: Deep Sky Astronomy

Join Astronomer Jamie Krumenacher and filmmakers of The Emissary, Holly and Tim Erskine, for an unforgettable evening as we tour northern Door’s night sky looking at galaxies, nebula, globular and open clusters, and constellations.
