Explore Door County’s Forests
August 15 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Discover the beautiful forests at the Lautenbach Woods Nature Preserve located on the Niagara Escarpment- the backbone of Door County’s celebrated landscape. This preserve hosts boreal, northern hardwood, and wet forests which provide excellent habitat for a host of plants and animals. As we hike through the higher elevations and follow the trail down and back up the slope of the escarpment, we will consider forest succession and discuss how to identify pioneer and understory species, as well as the trees that make up the canopy. Hiking boots are recommended, as we will face a stretch of moderately rocky terrain. We will cover approximately 1.3-miles with some uphill and downhill stretches.
