A Conservation Easement Experience in Southern Door
July 18 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Come discover one of the Door County Land Trust’s newest conservation easement properties in Southern Door – the 20-acre Schmidtke Conservation Easement. In 2019, bothers Erich and Peter Schmidtke protected their beautiful 20-acre property from future development. Near the Gardner Swamp State Wildlife Area and less than 325 feet from the shores of Green Bay, their conservation easement protects forest, a native flower prairie, and an unnamed stream that provides important habitat for migratory birds, monarch butterflies, and fish along the shores of Green Bay. Learn how Door County Land Trust conservation easements have helped dozens of landowners protect over 3,600 acres in the county. The brothers hope their conservation easement will inspire others in the area to join the efforts. Hiking will be moderate with uneven ground at times. Wear sturdy shoes like hiking boots and a hat. Bring water, bug spray, and sunscreen.
