Creation of a Nature Preserve: Kangaroo Lake

August 24 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Aug 24 KangarooLake

Learn how the Door County Land Trust and Nature Conservancy have protected over 650-acres to create the Kangaroo Lake Nature Preserve- one of Door County’s ecological gems. Private landowners have also played a big role in protecting this area. Visit one of our private conservation easements adjacent to the Kangaroo Lake Nature Preserve and learn about this unique land protection tool. We’ll hike through mature northern hardwood and wetland forest, down the ancient shoreline dolomite bluffs to Peil Creek where it flows into Kangaroo Lake. Explore this area’s unique geology, forests, and wetlands which provide excellent habitat for a host of rare plants and animals. Learn about the Land Trust’s continuing work to expand protection in this beautiful area. Hiking shoes are recommended on this moderate 2-mile hike. Bring water, bug repellent, and sunscreen.
