Aquatic Creatures Discovery

June 21 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am

June 21 Heins aquatic

Join us for a citizen science adventure at the Door County Land Trust’s Heins Creek Nature Preserve as we enter the creek and search for aquatic creatures. Heins Creek drains out of Kangaroo Lake into Lake Michigan and is home to a host of species including salmon, trout, northern pike, frogs, salamanders, Belted Kingfishers, ducks, and the aquatic invertebrates that they all feast on. The adventure will include a short walk down to Heins Creek where we will use aquatic sampling equipment to discover what is living here and record an aquatic index to better determine the health of the creek. This type of data helps us monitor the quality of the water over time and understand how land use activities in the watershed impact the creek. Wear good walking shoes or boots that can get wet and pants you can roll up to your knees and bring insect repellent.
