Creation of a Nature Preserve: Bayshore Blufflands
July 13 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Discover the exciting story of how the Door County Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy, and the Bayshore Blufflands Property Owners Association made the impossible – possible! The discovery of state threatened orchids and federally endangered relict snails along the Niagara Escarpment led to the Land Trust’s purchase of this 180-acre property slated for a 74-unit housing development. Twenty-four years later, the protected lands in the Bayshore Blufflands area have grown to over 1,300 acres. This 2-mile walk will start from the Bayshore Drive trailhead and parking lot, through the meadows and up the Niagara Escarpment where we’ll explore unique geology, plants, and animals that call this place home. Learn about the Land Trust’s vision for further protection in this area. Wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water, bug repellent, and sunscreen.
